Drunk cop took snap of teen’s breasts in Wetherspoons and text her ‘I’d do you’

A creepy copper flicked beer at a teenager at the pub before pulling down her top and taking a photograph.

Paul Hinchcliffe, 46, has been jailed for eight months for the grim act, with the judge lamenting his actions for breaching public trust and undermining the hard work of his colleagues.

The young woman, 18, has since said his actions have destroyed her confidence in the police.

The married father-of-four was found guilty of sexual assault earlier this year and was sentenced at Leeds Crown Court following the incident in a Wetherspoons pub in Wath upon Dearne, South Yorkshire, on October 3, 2020.

He resigned from South Yorkshire Police following the conviction.

The events of the night were recounted by Judge Robin Mairs who discussed how Hinchcliffe had pulled down her top and said to the officers he was with: "I’m going to have a w*** to that tonight."

Mimicking semen he flicked beer at the young woman and then pulled open her top.

Then, making sexual noises, took a photograph of her bra.

He then proceeded to send the picture to a colleague.

Hinchcliffe, who trained new recruits in the force, would later follow up on the vile act, the judge said.

Later on the victim received a message from him with the image he took accompanied by what were described as emojis related to masturbation.

Another message said: “God I’d do you, is that bad?”

In an impact statement read to the court, the victim said: “All my trust for the police just went.

“I used to feel safe when I saw police officers. I never think that now.

“He sexually assaulted me when he should’ve been in a role that protects people.”

Hinchcliffe's lawyer said his actions were “completely out of character” and, while didn’t claim his intoxication was a defence, did say it could have been a reason why.

The barrister said: “He should not have got himself into that state”.

Judge Mairs rejected a plea for the sentence to be suspended and said: “You were in your 40s and she was an 18-year-old girl.

“This was not committed whilst you were on police duties but it was committed in the company of other police officers.”

His actions were deemed “scarcely credible in the light of that background” and what he did “went far beyond jokes and banter”, the judge said.

He will be added to the sex offenders register for 10 years.
