The top 10 worst places for roadworks in the UK have been revealed in a new league table.
Motoring experts at LeaseCar.uk analysed the number of repairs done on roads across local authorities in the UK between April 2021 and March 2022.
The research found drivers in Essex were the worst affected in the country by a mile with 77,423 works done in the south-eastern county, almost 25,000 more than in the next-most affected region, Staffordshire.

And it wasn't just England plagued by vast amounts of street work – Cardiff came in third, meaning motorists in Wales' capital were also likely to experience delays on the road.
Tim Alcock from LeaseCar.uk said: "Roadworks can be incredibly frustrating for drivers, especially when they are in a rush or on the way to work, as they often cause huge delays.
"Motorists should factor in extra time to their journeys if they are travelling through locations that are known to have a lot of roadworks, especially in places like Essex, Staffordshire, and Cardiff.
"If possible, we recommend drivers try to plan ahead and avoid them, which is easy to do with a sat nav with traffic alerts.
"If this isn’t possible, make sure to be extra cautious when travelling through them as slow-moving vehicles, traffic and speed cameras are common."

Rounding out the top 10 were West Northamptonshire, East Riding of Yorkshire, Worcestershire, Bradford, Ealing in London, Hampshire and Leeds, the last of which had less than a third as many roadworks as Essex in the same period.
But although Essex, Staffordshire and Cardiff officially came out on top, British drivers across the country had their own thoughts on roadworks in their areas that didn't make the top 10.
Taking to Twitter, one disgruntled driver wrote: "Dronfield [Derbyshire] gotta be worst place in UK for roadworks."
While another chimed in: "Edinburgh is the worst place in the UK by far for potholes and roadworks."

A third added: "[Nottingham is the] worst city in UK for driving."
The research found that many of the roadworks happening on our streets were to provide essential services – in Cardiff, more than 39% of jobs on its roads were performed by Welsh Water.
"Try to remember that as much as they can be a nuisance, roadworks are ultimately carried out to improve our lives," Alcock added.
"Maintenance is crucial to improving current infrastructure and providing access to employment, education, health, and social opportunities."
The research also found that from April 2021 to March 2022 alone, more than £12billion was spent on road maintenance and repairs in the UK.
