Detectives have released an e-fit of a man believed to be behind the reported sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl in Sheffield.

The victim's mum issued an urgent appeal earlier this week as her teenage daughter was sexually assaulted after being offered a bottle of the viral energy drink Prime as a distraction before the attack.

She labelled the man "vile" and a "sick person".

The incident occurred whilst the teen was walking close to a duck pond, near woodland in Charlton Brook, Chapeltown, on February 8 at roughly 8 am.

It was previously reported that the assault had taken place near Mount Pleasant Close, but this has now been amended.

The young victim is currently receiving support from officers.

Wendy Howe, the investigating officer from South Yorkshire Police, has released a plea to the public for information, especially if they recognise the man in the e-fit.

She said: “This type of offence is highly traumatic and sometimes this means we get new information and new lines of enquiry as the victim is able to process what has happened.

"In our earlier appeals, we advised that this assault happened near Mount Pleasant Close, but we now believe that the girl was assaulted a little further off the main streets, in the wooded area close to the Chambers estate and Charlton Brook.

“I’d urge any residents living in the area to consider whether they heard or saw anything suspicious on Wednesday morning – or if they saw someone resembling this e-fit image.”

South Yorkshire Police have also previously said that: “The man is described as white, around 5ft 7ins tall, with blue eyes and aged in his 20s."
