Putin assembling half a million new war recruits to mark Ukraine anniversary

Russian president Vladimir Putin could be gearing up the Russian military for an anniversary offensive that would deploy 500,000 Russian troops.

The 70-year-old despot is allegedly set to "gain the world's attention", in an eerie statement delivered earlier by the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergei Lavrov.

His claims coincide with the upcoming anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine, which will mark its first year of full-blown conflict on February 24.

In an ominous announcement, it would appear Putin and his cronies are gearing up to mark the first year of Russian troops entering areas of Ukraine not already occupied by the despot's forces.

Doing so will see roughly half a million troops allegedly set to join the conflict, with a "major offensive" planned to fall on the anniversary of the war.

Ukrainian defence minister Oleksii Reznikov has since stated that Ukraine do not "underestimate" their "enemy" and that they will prepare for the planned offensive.

Reznikov said: "We do not underestimate our enemy. Officially, they announced 300,000, but when we see the troops at the borders, according to our assessments it is much more."

It comes as The Sun reports Putin's speech that saw him declare the war in Ukraine as similar to that of the Second World War.

The 70-year-old despot said: "It's unbelievable but true. We are again being threatened by German Leopard tanks."

His comments which make reference to the Second World War were made during an appearance at an event commemorating Soviety victories over Nazi forces at Stalingrad toward the end of the Second World War.

Ukraine's western allies have previously supplied the country with tanks, munitions and weaponry.

But Putin's cronies and their boasts of capturing the attention of the world come as Daily Star reported Russia was desperately trying to replace its war wounded after suffering over half a million troop losses.
