Dog found running around with human arm in mouth and police say head is missing

After a dog was spotted carrying a human arm through the streets of Jackson, Mississippi, police found more body parts in an old abandoned house nearby.

The body appeared to be that of a white male, police said but warned mournfully that no head had yet been found.

The shocking mystery began on Saturday, November 5, when a local motorist saw the dog reportedly a German Shepherd, carrying something that appeared to be a charred arm in its mouth and then called the police.

Police searched the surrounding area and, early on Sunday, they found a headless body, with one of its arms missing, in a derelict property surrounded by woodland.

Investigators have yet to find the dead man’s head. Commander Abraham Thompson from Jackson police says his officers are “ following up on leads and still getting phone calls”.

Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart confirmed that the body was that of a white male. The headless body is currently at the Hinds County Morgue pending further examination.

At a news conference on Monday, local mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba expressed his deep shock over the grisly discovery.

“That is a very graphic and brutal picture,” he said. “The mutilation of a body, my reaction is one of disgust, is one of concern.

“It's not something you grow accustomed to. It's never something you want to grow accustomed to”.

He said that his only response to the horrific incident would be to drive the investigation forward: “The way I deal with concern is to ask questions and push forward to how we can bring justice,” he said.

Investigators believe they may know the name of the dead man, but declined to release the name of the victim or any other details surrounding the case Monday amid an ongoing investigation.

Jackson Deputy Police Chief Deric Hearn said in a news release that this incident is Jackson's 117th homicide of the year.

Five years ago, the head of Jeremy Jerome Johnson, a 30-year-old JSU student, was found on a porch in Jackson. His badly-burned body was later discovered in a wooded residential area just under a mile away.

That case, which was reportedly connected to a string of gang-related homicides that took place over the summer of 2017, remains unsolved.
