A police officer was fired for allegedly engaging in “sexual relations” with a 13-year-old girl in Florida.
Officer Sheridon Edward Archer, 23, of the Palm Bay Police Department allegedly committed the act while on duty was taken into custody on Wednesday (September 21).
He was subsequently charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious battery of a victim under the age of 16.

The investigation into Archer began on Sunday (September 18) when officers at Palm Bay PD reached out to FDLE (Florida Department of Law Enforcement).
According to authorities, Palm Bay PD notified the agency about the allegations regarding Archer and requested the FDLE to investigate the claims further.
Lt. Mike Roberts, a spokesperson for the Palm Bay Police Department told Florida Today: “When we discovered what happened, it was determined that the Florida Department of Law Enforcement would run the investigation."
In a press release, the agency said its agents found out that Archer had “contacted the teenager through a social media app and met the victim for sex on two separate occasions, each time while he was on duty".
According to a probable cause affidavit, investigators discovered that Archer met the 13-year-old girl through a social media app called "MeetMe" which is designed for “making friends, playing games, and even falling in love,” according to its website.

Archer went to the girl’s home on two separate occasions and allegedly committed lewd and lascivious battery, according to investigators.
Archer was reportedly on-duty during both alleged encounters with the victim allegedly able to subsequently identify Archer by his tattoos.
Based on the results of the investigation, agents with the FDLE agents had believed they had sufficient probable cause for an arrest and took Archer into custody in which he is being held on $500,000 (£443,000) bond.
Palm Bay PD reportedly said that Archer had been terminated from the department after a nine-month tenure.
