A DJ has been left raging after venues he was hoping to enter barred him for wearing shorts.

Jordan Hookem, 25, from Scarborough was trying to enter his local late-night spot but the savage pieing left him ‘angry’ and ‘confused’.

He spins disks across the town, where he has lived all his life, and so was shocked when despite the heatwave bars blocked entry to blokes in shorts.

He claims two or three venues gave him and his pals the cold shoulder for bearing their shins on a scorching day, YorkshireLive reports.

Left scratching his head, the disc jockey said: "It's Scarborough, can anywhere really have a dress code, especially a pub? These same businesses will be squawking for business come the winter months when everyone's staying at home totting their penny jars up.

"How come males aren't allowed to wear shorts however females are, surely a leg is a leg? Surely people don't think 'I'm not going in there that man has his legs out' as they walk past?

"I can slightly forgive it in normal circumstances but we're in a heatwave and it's summer. It's roasting, who goes around in a full 5-piece suit or jeans for a few jars in Maldives weather – adapt to the circumstances or fall behind.

"I would slightly understand if it's sports shorts or work shorts covered in paint but is it really that bad in chino or jean shorts, I mean if you would rather the eight of us spend our money somewhere else over literally knee to ankle length of thread then so be it.

“Ill also remember come winter where to spend my money."

He says his confusion doesn’t just stop at this latest incident though. He recalls that he also had a funny encounter when trying access bars during the rule-of-six lockdown measure.

He said: "I'm just confused, it happened after covid last year too when it was rules of six – six of us were out and pubs refused us entry at 6pm on a Sunday night – there was nobody else in.

"It just seems daft for places to be refusing money, we’d of probably spent around £100 in there and I just don’t understand why a seaside resort in the summer turns away lads in shorts, just makes me feel confused and baffled more than anything.

"It's annoying because the door staff are the ones that have to break the news, and it's not fair to stand and argue with them when it's not their fault, so I just accept it and walk on but it gets annoying when its two or three places refusing you in."
