Moscow is believed to be purposefully dismantling the infrastructure needed for food production and blocking ports vital for shipping cereals out of Ukraine, which is the “breadbasket” of Europe, thus sparking a global food crisis. This comes as Russia announced it is using a new laser weapon to burn up drones. Yury Borisov, the deputy prime minister, claimed that the new weapon, called “Zadira” had burned up a drone 5 km away within five seconds. Reacting to this news, Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelensky mockingly compared the laser to the so-called “wonder weapons” unveiled by nazi Germany in a bid to avoid defeat in the second world war. In his nightly address, Mr Zelensky said: “The clearer it became that they had no chance in the war, the more propaganda there was about an amazing weapon that would be so powerful as to ensure a turning point. “And so we see that in the third month of a full-scale war, Russia is trying to find its ‘wonder weapon’ … this all clearly shows the complete failure of the mission.
