A former Miss Alabama has died from injuries she sustained eight days ago in a tragic accident, her family have confirmed.

Zoe Sozo Bethel, who was just 20-years-old, died at 5.30am on Friday morning after sustaining injuries, including one to the head that is believed to have done the most damage.

Her family shared photographs of the beauty queen and said she “touched the hearts of many” in an emotional social media post.

Zoe's tragic death was confirmed by relatives days after the accident that left her in a coma.

They said she died in Miami, Florida, adding that she "passed from this life into the next" just days after they confirmed she had been in an accident and was in a coma.

“At this time of bereavement, effectual and fervent prayers are solicited for the family members, and the family asks that their privacy wishes be honored and respected,” Zoe’s family wrote.

“The family members sincerely appreciate all of the kind words and expressions of love for Zoe.”

The family did not specify what sort of accident Zoe was involved in.

Writing on her Instagram, the family initially said: "Zoe had an accident Thursday night, February 10th, & sustained severe damage to her brain/brainstem & is in a coma."

The family had also set up a fund raising page to go towards Zoe's medical bills. It is likely the $41k raised will go towards her daughter following news of Zoe's death.

"I met Zoe at youth camp about 15 years ago. She was such a joy to be around and always stood for her beliefs. I have nothing but respect for her, and the world is worse without her," wrote one person on the Go Fund Me page after news of the model's death.

The 2021 Miss Alabama was the executive producer and brand ambassador for the Miss Liberty America organisation.
