Following reports that a COVID-19 rule flouting birthday party was thrown for Boris Johnson where he claimed he was “ambushed by a cake”, the SNP’s Westminster leader Ian Blackford took the chance to ridicule Mr Johnson for the crisis. It comes as the Metropolitan Police have now launched a criminal investigation into eight of the alleged sixteen lockdown breaching parties.
Mr Blackford hammered: “The impending national insurance hike hangs like a guillotine while they eat cake!
“This is nothing short of a crisis. And the only route to restore public trust is for the prime minister to go
“How much longer will Tory MPs let this go on for! How much more damage are they willing to do!
“It is time to get this over with, show the Prime Minister the door!”
JUST IN Labour MP forced to withdraw Boris attack ‘He doesn’t know what he’s talking about!’
But Mr Johnson appeared to take advantage of the attack from the Scot as he delivered a ruthless blow back at him.
He slammed: “I don’t know who’s been eating more cake!
What I will say to the right honourable gentlemen… Behind the scenes we operate well and will continue to do so!”
Following the chaotic back and forth, observers took to Twitter to share their thoughts.
Boris Johnson blasts 'insane' EU during PMQs
Kels_Tweets said: “Boris accused of fat shaming for saying: ‘I don’t know who’s been eating more cake’ to Blackford LOLLLLLLL. What a time to be alive.”
While Sir Rambo said: “Blackford accusing tories of eating cakes.
“I think the irony is lost on him! Mind you, I assume Blackford can’t find a mirror big enough to see all of himself.”
Meanwhile, former UK ambassador Christopher Meyer hit out at Keir Starmer’s performance in PMQs, as well as Blackford’s cake gag: “Faced with an open goal, Starmer misses again at PMQs. An astonishingly flaccid performance. Even Blackford did better, despite ghastly cake joke.”

ITV News reported that up to 30 people attended a June 19, 2020 birthday party for Mr Johnson, where wife Carrie and chums sung Happy Birthday and ate cake, despite lockdown rules at the time banning such indoor gatherings.
It comes as Metropolitan Police Commissioner Dame Cressida Dick said her force were now investigating “potential breaches of Covid-19 regulations” as part of a criminal investigation into the bashes.
This will come alongside senior civil servant Sue Gray’s report into potential rule flouting parties which could be released as early as today.
According to The Mirror, Sue Gray has reportedly been handed photos of Mr Johnson with wine bottles at one of the parties.
