The former City trader, famous for challenging the Government on Brexit in court, promised to clean up politics and push for a constitutional overhaul. Speaking at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre on Thursday morning, Ms Miller detailed plans for the new True and Fair Party. She also justified the launch of her new party, saying polling had found two-thirds (66 percent) of people would consider voting for a new political party.
But just 13 people – including five journalists – were said to be in attendance for the launch, with empty seats visible throughout the room.
The party claimed afterwards: “We made the decision not to invite supporters to our launch today to observe Covid guidelines.
“Hundreds of people were bitterly disappointed not to be able to attend in person.”
Will Lloyd, a staff writer at online politics magazine UnHerd, was one of those people in attendance and detailed the scene inside the room.
He wrote on the UnHerd website: “’We’ve had to scale the event back,’ the bald man told me.
“It was less than half an hour before Gina Miller was due to launch her new political party, True & Fair, in a Westminster conference centre.
“Other than the bald man, there was one person in the room — me.
“There is scaling back, and there are bloody massacres.
“He was a PR, and said that it was his job to handle the press.
“It promised to be a light day’s work. Man, it was quiet. I heard an empty crisp packet breeze across the road to Parliament Square.
“Fifty mugs stayed eerily unfilled with coffee.
“Oh God I thought, if I’m the only person here I’ll have to ask Gina Miller a question.

“Only one made sense: Gina, where is everybody?
“The deserted room, big enough for several Greek weddings, gave me that bad party feeling. How could I escape?”
Ms Miller took to the stage to outline the objectives of her new party, and when it had ended, just three of the journalists in attendance asked questions, according to Mr Lloyd.
He concluded: The press were done with her now.
“Three journalists bothered to ask questions, before Gina Miller stormed off into a side room.
“Her speech was an end, not a beginning.”
During her speech, Ms Miller promised her new party would champion “greater transparency, accountability, competency than existing political parties provide”.
She said: “It is time for a new approach to politics.
“I hope that many people around the country will want to join the True and Fair Party to bring real and meaningful change.”
Ms Miller also took aim at Brexit and warned leaving the EU would devastate the economy in the long-term.
She added: “With the Office for Budget Responsibility recently stating that Brexit – yes, I’m daring to use the word apparently banned in Whitehall – is on course to cause a five percent contraction in the size of Britain’s economy over the long-term.
“The facts are the facts. The effects are the effects.
“Irrespective of whether it is more down to Covid or to Brexit, we need strategic, competent leadership.
“We need competent management of the public finances.”
