A stunned airline passenger has claimed to have spotted Prince Harry and Meghan Markle sneaking aboard a commercial jet from New York to Los Angeles – despite nobody onboard getting a picture.

The pair, who have drawn criticism in the past for using private jets while preaching about their eco-friendly values, reportedly boarded the aircraft after all the other passengers and baggage were safely on board – causing a 20 minute delay before take-off.

In September, Meghan and Harry attended Global Citizen Live, a 24-hour charity concert featuring Stevie Wonder, Jennifer Lopez, BTS and Elton John, which promised to raise money to “defend the planet and defeat poverty”.

But after leaving the show, which raised in excess of $1.1bn (£810m) for good causes, the pair flew home to California on a Dassault Falcon 2000 private jet, according to The Sun.

Royal expert Penny Junor said at the time: “I do think this is hypocrisy. I’m sure there were plenty of scheduled flights.”

But Harry and Meghan might have been listening to their critics, if one flyer is to be believed.

Writing on social media, the royal fan claimed: “Ok this might sound unbelievable and I couldn’t get a good picture and I get you can say this could literally be anyone….BUT….Prince Harry and Meghan were on our flight to LA last night!”

“We were held up for about 20 minutes from our departure time and they were snuck into the last 2 seats,” they added.

“We didn’t even know until a girl waiting to get off the plane next to us pointed them out. I couldn’t get my phone out fast enough but it was them.

“They were quickly whisked away and we were in shock that we were so close and breathing the same air as our beloved royals!”

Posting on their Archewell site earlier this month, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex responded to critics, saying that they had "actively made choices to offset and balance their carbon footprint,” but conceded that “nearly every activity in daily life results in the release of carbon into the atmosphere”.
