Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, President Joe Biden hit out at un-vaccinated Americans as the USA is engulfed by a surge in the Delta variant. He slammed those rejecting the vaccine as “not smart” as he continues his campaign to encourage American’s to take up the vaccine amid jab scepticism. His comments come as Mr Biden announced that all federal government employees will be mandated to get the vaccine or accept regular testing in order to continue working for the government as Biden leads a crackdown to tackle covid.

Mr Biden was asked by a reporter whether he would make it mandatory for all federal employees of the United States government to be vaccinated against the coronavirus.

But the President hit back with a surprisingly harsh dig at those who are not already vaccinated.

In response, he snapped: “That is under consideration right now.

“But if you’re not vaccinated, you are not nearly as smart as I thought you were!”

Mr Biden stressed how vaccines are “the most important protection we have against the Delta variant”.

His comments come as the President is forging ahead with plans that will see federal employees required to get the Covid vaccine or accept regular testing.

He said how he will “lay out the next steps in our effort to get more Americans vaccinated.”

The move comes as a debate has raged across America over the idea of mandating the coronavirus vaccine which some argue goes against their rights as American’s.

Mr Biden has led a prolonged campaign on vaccines in an attempt to get on top of the coronavirus and get America moving again.

He added: “By following the science, and by doing our part by getting vaccinated, America can beat Covid.”

His comments around mandating vaccines comes as The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated their mask guidelines on Tuesday to encourage American’s to wear masks indoors as the Delta variant surges across The States.

Mr Biden praised the move, saying: “Another step on our journey to defeating this virus. I hope all Americans who live in the areas covered by the CDC guidance will follow it… I certainly will when I travel to these areas.”
