The London mayoral elections will be taking place on May 6, 2021. Labour’s candidate is incumbent London Mayor Sadiq Khan, while the Conservative candidate, Shaun Bailey, is Mr Khan’s closest rival according to the latest polls. A total of 20 candidates are running in the 2021 London mayoral election.

Luisa Porritt is standing as the Liberal Democrat candidate for the election and Sian Berry is the Green Party’s candidate.

YouTube star Niko Omilana is running as a candidate, as is ex-Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn’s brother, Piers Corbyn.

The UKIP candidate is Peter Gammons, while actor Laurence Fox, who has been an outspoken opponent of the Government’s lockdown measures, is standing for the Reclaim party.

Count Binface, who stood against Boris Johnson in his Uxbridge constituency in 2019, is also standing to be London’s next mayor.

Who is leading in the polls?

Over the last few weeks, the majority of opinion polls have placed Sadiq Khan ahead of his mayoral rivals.

An ITV London/Savanta ComRes Survey carried out earlier this month showed Sadiq Khan was the most popular mayoral candidate among those surveyed.

More than 1,000 Londoners completed the online survey between April 13 and 19.

The poll put Sadiq Khan on 41 percent, while Conservative candidate Shaun Bailey polled at 28 percent.

The Lib Dem candidate Luisa Porritt polled at eight percent, while the Green Party’s Sian Berry stood at six percent.

An Opinium poll of 1,093 people surveyed between April 7 and 10 showed Mr Khan polled at 51 percent, ahead of Mr Bailey’s 29 percent.

A YouGov/Queen Mary University of London poll of 1,192 people between March 29 and April 1 also showed Mr Khan in the lead with 47 percent compared to Mr Bailey’s 26 percent.
