Amazon is expected to drop a whopping 8,000 Playstation 5 consoles this weekend, compared to their usual 5,000, reports suggest.

John Lewis and Very are also rumoured to have a bigger supply than usual, although this has not been confirmed by the retailer.

In a Tweet, PS5 Update UK, which tracks the latest stock levels of the consoles in the country, said: "Amazon is expecting around 8K stock to be delivered this weekend.

"There may be more shipment deliveries made that I don’t know other than this."

It added that although 5,000 may seem small "Amazon have always released under 5K stock each restock, so this shows an increase in supply."

As well as Amazon's potential weekend re-stock, the online retail giant is also expected to get stock early in the week

Stock insiders claim GAME and ASDA will also put up more consoles for sale sometime mid-next week, the Sun reported.

Game is predicted to get the console drop sometime between April 6 and 8, and will release them at around 9 and 10am.

The highly sought after Sony Playstation 5 has been largely out of stock since November, and could be widely out of stock until July.

Sony have blamed the production delay on a global computer chip "crisis," made worse by the pandemic.

Demand for the console is through the roof and fans have reportedly awaited hours in online queues for a chance to nab one, only to be disappointed.

The PS5 consoles are so rare one Reddit user made a mock "new baby" photoshoot featuring his girlfriend Caitlin and their cat Lux.

Jesse from Birmingham, Alabama, said the pair "wanted one for a while" but it "seemed so difficult to get."

He said the couple "really started trying" to bag one "two months ago," and ended up driving to a best buy over two hours away from him to complete the purchase.

The keen gamer told Daily Star: "We had to drive to a Best Buy in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

"It’s little over two hours away.

"But we’re fun and decided to make a day of it, visit a brewery, go to the zoo.

"We’re introverts and respect the quarantine very much so we saw it as a chance to add to the story."
