BBC Weather forecaster Chris Fawkes noted that sandstorms have begun developing in Northern Africa. He said these sandstorms will be blown into the Mediterranean and mix with heavy rain in the area. This will cause blood rain to fall which could cause disruption in some areas.
Mr Fawkes said: “We have got some sandstorms across northern Libya at the moment where we have got some strong winds.
“Those sandstorms are blowing dust into the Mediterranean so Crete and Cyprus are likely to see some hazy skies.
“With some showers working their way into these areas as we go through Tuesday we might even get something called blood rain.
“This is where the rain mixes with some of that dust and leaves dirty deposits on cars and things.”
