Shamed boxer who punched four women at child’s first birthday party facing jail

An ex-boxer is facing jail after punching four women in a frenzied attack at a child’s first birthday party last year.

Shamed ex-sportsman Carl Huggins was warned by a judge in court on Friday (February 5) that he is at risk of facing jail time for his violent attacks.

The 33-year-old, from York, is said to have punched one woman in the face during the incident which took place on October 17 last year.

Huggins’ victim was left with a split lip, black eyes, and other grazes and bruises to her arm – and the force of the punch to her face was so hard she was knocked to the floor.

Police arriving at the scene received verbal abuse from the accused – who later told officers he was “very drunk”.

Huggins has since pleaded guilty in court to his crimes – assault by bearing.

YorkshireLive reported from the courtroom from a hearing that was held on Friday which was due to include a sentence, but this was postponed.

During a hearing at the court today (Friday), the prosecution said Huggins lost control and "did not care who he may have hit".

“He was due to be sentenced today but sentencing was adjourned to March 10 for a pre-sentence report to be prepared.”

District Judge Adrian Lower did, however, warn Huggins during the hearing: "You run the risk of going to prison."

Huggins is currently out on custodial bail until his sentencing hearing next month.

He has a previous conviction for affray.

While Huggins has been known to fight as an amateur boxer, taking in at least one fight in Kent, his profession was listed in the court as working as a bricklayer.
