Joe Biden defeated incumbent Republican President Donald Trump after the highly anticipated US presidential election on Tuesday, November 3. Mr Trump has yet to concede and has not yet spoken publicly since his defeat. The result makes Mr Trump the first-one president since the 1990s and his wife Melania Trump the first one-term First Lady. However, with Mr Biden becoming the new President-Elect, his wife Jill Biden will become the new First Lady – but who is she?
The Democratic President-Elect Joe Biden has vowed to unify Americans and heal divisions across the country.
In his first speech since his projected wins in Pennsylvania and Nevada, which led to him being named as the 46th US President, he pledged to unite the country.
Mr Biden said: “I pledge to be a president who seeks not to divide, but to unify; who doesn’t see red states and blue states, only sees the United States.”
He added: “It’s time to put away the harsh rhetoric, lower the temperature, see each other again, listen to each other again.
“And to make progress, we have to stop treating our opponents as enemies.”
So far Mr Biden has won more than 74 million votes, which is the most for any US presidential candidate.
This compares to more than 70 million votes for Mr Trump.
Mr Biden will be inaugurated as the next President on January 20, 2021.
At this time, his wife Jill Biden will become the new First Lady of the United States.
Who is Jill Biden?
Dr Jill Biden is the wife of Mr Biden who will be by the President-Elect’s side when he becomes President.
Jill, maiden name Jill Jacobs, was born in June 1951 in New Jersey.
She was the oldest of five sisters and grew up in the Philadelphia suburb of Willow Grove.

Dr Biden was married to a former college football player Bill Stevenson prior to marrying Mr Biden.
The couple separated in 174 and were divorced in May 1975.
She met Mr Biden on a blind date when she was at college and he was a senator.
They were married in 1977, four and a half years after his first wife, Neiliam and infant daughter, Neilia, were killed in a motor vehicle accident.
The couple’s sons Beau and Hunter survived the crash.
Jill Biden turned down proposals from the President-Elect four times before agreeing to be his wife.
She told Vogue magazine: “I was a senior, and I had been dating guys in jeans and clogs and T-shirts, he came to the door and he had a sport coat and loafers, and I thought, ‘God, this is never going to work, not in a million years.’ He was nine years older than I am!”
Dr Biden has spent decades working as a teacher.
She has a bachelor’s degree, two master’s degrees and doctorate of education from the University of Delaware.
She taught at a community college, public high school and a psychiatric hospital for adolescents before moving to Washington DC.
While her husband served as Barack Obama’s vice president, she worked as a professor of England at Northern Virginia College.
In August she tweeted: “Teaching is not what I do. It’s who I am.”
Jill Biden took a break from her career in April last year to support her husband on the campaign trail.
She previously said she intends to return to teaching English if Mr Biden was elected as President.
She told CBD Sunday Morning: “I would love to. If we get to the White House, I’m going to continue to teach.
“I want people to value teachers and know their contributions and to lift up the profession.”
This will make her the first First Lady in history to hold a full-time teaching job while acting as FLOTUS.
