An apparent hostage situation in Salem, Oregon, has left multiple people dead after shots were fired during a hostage situation, police claim.
Marion County Sheriff’s Office were called to the hostage situation in the Juneva area of Salem before gunfire broke out Southeast of the area.
Police have said officers were called to a hostage situation at a home at around 12.30pm on Monday.
After officers arrived, a crisis negotiator was called to the scene before shots were fired as police spoke to the hostage taker.
Multiple people have been killed, police have confirmed, including the hostage-taker in the situation.
Police have not confirmed who fired the fatal shots, and said only that "shots were fired" with multiple dead.
Oregon State Police are now investigating the case and said no deputies had been injured during the shoot-out.
The force also said any officers involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave while the investigation is ongoing.
