A police chief requested futuristic “heat ray” crowd control which uses microwaves to cook the skin of protesters to help disperse Black Lives Matter protesters, it has been revealed.
A spokesperson for Joint Forces Headquarters Command in Washington DC confirmed the staggering request.
They said a military police staff officer had asked if the local branch of the National Guard had a "heat ray" weapon which could be used against the demonstrators.
It was just hours before police used smoke and tear gas to clear a crowd which was gathering near the White House on June 1.
Major Adam DeMarco of the Washington DC National Guard said he was copied on an email from the Provost Marshal of Joint Force Headquarters National Capital.
The military police officer inquired about the availability of two cutting-edge “non-lethal” devices – the Long Range Acoustic Device “sound cannon” and the Active Denial System (ADS).
The ADS uses millimetre-wave microwaves to heat the skin of protesters to very high temperatures, forcing them to retreat.

Major DeMarco quoted the email as saying: “ADS can provide our troops a capability they currently do not have, the ability to reach out and engage potential adversaries at distances well beyond small arms range, and in a safe, effective, and non-lethal manner.”
He testified to a House ofRepresentatives committee “the DCNational Guard was not in possession of either an LRAD or an ADS”.
The ADS was deployed to Afghanistan in 2010 as a riot control device, but was withdrawn without ever being used.
Some critics say the ADS would be ineffective with fine rain or mist reducing its intense heat to “a pleasantly warm sensation”.
But according to a report from weapons expert Dr Jurgen Altmann, the ADS could technically produce second or third degree burns across 50% of a target’s skin.
He added: “The ADS has a potential to produce permanent injury or death.”
