A young girl was luckily saved after hero diners rushed to stop a man from allegedly abducting her in front of her mother.

Dramatic CCTV video has emerged appearing to show the perpetrator jumping over a rail to snatch the four-year-old at the outdoor seating area of a pizza restaurant in Florida of Johannesburg in South Africa.

The 24-year-old man is seen leaping over the barriers and running to grab the girl by the neck from her seat.

The girl's mother and a female friend quickly get hold of the child as the man drags her to the ground.

A passing customer, who wears a black t-shirt, instantly runs to their aid and tackles the man to the floor.

The toddler girl cries in shock while her mother takes her inside the restaurant.

A security guard approaches later and holds him on the ground until the police arrives.

Separate footage shows the suspect having his hands tied behind his back and a man stepping on his back while reporting the incident to the police.

The agitated man is seen bleeding in the nose as he shouts at the bystanders.

According to Times Live, the suspect was arrested on suspicion of attempted child abduction.

Lieutenant Kay Makhubela, a spokesperson for Gauteng Police, confirmed the incident.

He said in a statement: "It is alleged that on Thursday about 5pm the complainant was at the pizza shop in Florida with her four-year-old child when an unknown male came and grabbed the child by her neck as if he wanted to take her.

"The mother and the child screamed and, with the help of the shop owner and the community, the suspect was apprehended."

The suspect appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court on Friday.
