Donald Trump's brother has been rushed to hospital in New York City.

Robert Trump, 72, is the youngest brother of the US President.

The White House has confirmed he has been hospitalised but provided no other details about his condition.

ABC News reports that the younger Trump brother is "very ill", citing multiple sources.

White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said the President "has a very good relationship with his brother and his brother is very special to him".

President Trump is reportedly expected to visit his brother in hospital.

Robert Trump, one of the President's four siblings, was a former top executive at the Trump Organisation.

Earlier this year Robert Trump had requested a temporary restraining order in an attempt to stop the publication of his niece Mary's family exposé Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World's Most Dangerous Man.

He said he was "deeply disappointed" in his niece's decision to publish the book.

"Her attempt to sensationalise and mischaracterise our family relationship after all of these years for her own financial gain is both a travesty and injustice to the memory of my late brother, Fred, and our beloved parents," he told the New York Times.

"I and the rest of my entire family are so proud of my wonderful brother, the president, and feel that Mary's actions are truly a disgrace."
