Denver police took one man into custody Monday night after another man was found dead after a fight in a motel parking lot.
Edgar Trujillo, 25, is being held for investigation of second-degree murder in the death of a man, who was staying in the same room at Western Motor Inn in the 4700 block of Vasquez Boulevard, according to a Denver Police Department probable cause statement.
A third man who was staying in the room told detectives that the other two woke him to take Trujillo to a hospital. As he got into the driver’s seat, the witness said he saw Trujillo striking the other man behind the car, the statement said. The witness said he saw the other man fall, and he told police that Trujillo punched him three times before he was able to go to the motel office and ask for help.
Denver Health paramedics pronounced the victim, who has not been identified, dead at the scene, the statement said.
Trujillo spoke to police, but his statements were redacted from the police document released to the public.
